Affiliate link disclosure

An affiliate disclosure is needed before the links appear, not after. Here is the present state of affairs, the rules by which they will be marked if they appear, and an explanation of why the content will not change.

The present state

At the time of publication there are no affiliate links on the site. Not one link to an external resource earns us anything for a click or a purchase.

There are no links through to prop firms' sites either. The list of live programmes on the choosing a firm page gives the terms, but the cards carry no links to the firms: the page should answer the question itself rather than serve as a shop window for other people's offers.

There are only three external links on the site, and all of them lead to what the text is about: to a specialist resource on forex trading and to the site of a product covered in the catalogue of environments. The addresses carry no affiliate parameters and we receive nothing for a click. A product's claims about itself are its claims: check them in its own documentation rather than in our retelling.

That may change: a free site has to pay for itself somewhere. So we describe the rules in advance — so that they do not look like a fit to a choice already made.

The rules if links appear

01A mark at the point of insertion

Not only on this page but next to the link itself. The reader should see the nature of a link where they decide whether to click it.

on every link
02No payment for a place in a list

The order of firms in a list is not for sale. A list of terms is built on a transparent criterion — alphabetical order, for instance — and the criterion is named.

the order is not for sale
03The content does not change

The checking criteria, the red flags and the calculations stay the same. If a firm fails our own filters, an affiliate link does not excuse it.

the assessment is independent
04A refusal is recorded publicly

If we have turned down a partnership because of a firm's terms, it is right to say so — that is information for the reader too.

transparent

Why this matters more than it seems

In the prop industry affiliate commissions are the main way content is monetised, and that is exactly why public firm rankings are useless as a ranking: the order in them reflects the size of the commission. We deal with this separately on the choosing a firm page, where we explain why we will have no rankings.

Claiming independence without naming your own way of paying the bills would be inconsistent. That is why this page exists before any links appear rather than after: a rule written in advance can be checked, while one written afterwards is an explanation.

what already existsA list of programmes with no links throughThe terms of nine firms are given on the choosing-a-firm page, and the cards carry no links to the firms themselves. The appearance of an affiliate link would be a noticeable change — and it would be marked.
what will not changeThe criteria and the calculationsThe six checking filters, the red flags and the calculators' formulas do not depend on whether we have a partnership with a firm.
what may changeLinks appearing in the list of firmsA list of live programmes with their terms is planned. If any of them carries an affiliate link, it will be marked.
what will never happenA paid place in a rankingWe will have no ranking at all, so there is nothing to sell in one. The order in the list of terms is built on a criterion that is named.

Frequently asked questions

Are there affiliate links on the site now?

No. We have no links through to prop firms' sites either: the list of programmes gives the terms rather than links to the firms. There are only three external links — to a specialist forex resource and to the site of a product from the catalogue of environments; they carry no affiliate parameters.

How will affiliate links be marked?

With a mark next to the link itself, not only on this page. The reader should see the nature of a link where they decide whether to click it.

Does a partnership affect how a firm is assessed?

No, and the rule is written down in advance: the checking criteria, the red flags and the formulas stay the same. If a firm fails our filters, an affiliate link does not excuse it.

Can I buy a place in your list?

No. We will have no ranking at all, so there is nothing to sell in one. The order in the list of terms is built on a transparent criterion, and the criterion is named next to the list.

Why are you writing about this before any links exist?

Because a rule written in advance can be checked, while one written afterwards is an explanation. Claiming independence without naming a way of paying the bills would be inconsistent.

How does the site pay for itself now?

It does not yet: there are no affiliate links and no advertising. When that changes, the change will appear both on this page and next to the links themselves.

Do you take money for reviews?

No, and they cannot be commissioned: the list of programmes carries only the firms' published terms, with no scores and no places in a ranking. We do not publish guest articles or press releases — that is written into the editorial policy separately.

Why are prop firm rankings considered unreliable?

Because in this industry affiliate commissions are the main way content is monetised, and the order in public lists more often reflects their size than the quality of a firm.

What should I do if I spot an unmarked affiliate link?

Write to us: it is a breach of our own rule and it has to be corrected. We deal with such messages first.

Will you recommend particular firms?

No. A list of live firms with their published terms is planned — with no scores and no order “from best to worst”. Compatibility with your strategy is checked by calculation, not by a recommendation.
